Basecamp was the idea of Explorers Connect, the website for the adventurous community.
Set in the rolling hills of the Peak District in Derbyshire it offered 200 adventurous types an opportunity to learn the basics behind a range of outdoor pursuits from bush craft, rock climbing and caving to kayaking, river tubing and slacklining.
After a busy day of learning we retired back to Sabine Hay, owned by Trevor who kindly let us stay in his field and stroke his long, white beard. Then shattered the serenity with our applause and laughter for the speakers followed by rocking tunes blasted out by The Balkan Bandits.
Once the band had played their encore the group retired to the fire-pit and chatted over the day’s events and contemplated future expeditions where our new skills could be put to the test.
